Wedding Receptions

So the ceremony is over and it is time for the reception and celebrations.

A Reception inside the Castle: The Great Hall at Kincardine Castle makes a spectacular venue for a reception. It is an impressive castle set in spectacular grounds with great views to the hills of Royal Deeside. Inside guests will ascend the broad marble staircase and enter the Great Hall which, with its timbered ceiling, its oak panelling, stags heads, oil paintings, minstrels’ gallery and log fire is everything you expect of a Scottish castle.

Capacity for a stand-up reception is about 100 – for larger numbers see our page on Marquee Sites.

A Reception outside the Castle: Obviously, if the weather is fine then we can swiftly move to the lawns and gardens but please note our caveat about weather on the introductory page.

A sit down meal: In this case the maximum capacity in the Great Hall is 56. Smaller numbers are possible either in this room or in our Dining Room. We can accommodate larger parties and dances afterwards in a marquee.

Dancing: As a rule dancing is restricted to marquees as we cannot risk damaging valuable paintings and furniture. For smallish numbers we can install a marquee close to the castle’s front door and this has worked extremely well with dancing in the marquee and drinks and sitting out in the castle. Larger parties use our marquee site.

Caterers: We have a list of approved caterers, all of whom can provide a huge range of extremely good food.

Photographs: Needless to say the interior and exterior of Kincardine Castle and the gardens provide spectacular backdrops for your wedding photographs. But a word of warning – don’t let the photographer take over your day. In our experience they can take ages to take formal photos of every combination of bride, groom, great-aunt etc. and really that isn’t what the day is about. Speaking from our own experience of more than 30 years ago the photographs of which we wish we’d had more taken were informal ones of our guests. They’re far more fun than the formal ones of us and our family, so we suggest you plan in advance with your photographer, the maximum time to allocate to formal photogprahy.
